I just tried qgis-0.8 under vanilla wine-0.9.27
on Ubuntu Dapper, and there were no obvious font problems in
the installer or qgis itself.
To use the help option, I had to have a Windows web
browser installed, and give its full path when prompted
(or enter it in Options).
The qgis_help program displayed a blank page, not sure
what it's supposed to do.
I had to unzip the alaska data myself, is that supposed to be automatic?
And I couldn't find any sample project; I did load the alaska shape file ok.
